But for the Grace of God

But for the grace of God, there go I;
My life could never pass the test.
And by the grace of God, Jesus for me died.
God gave to me His Best.

My sin went before me everywhere;
Its load of condemnation I could not bear.
Then He turned my eyes to His sacrifice,
Paid all of my debt and gave me eternal life.

Now by the grace of God, here am I;
Receiving God's peace and rest.

But for the grace of God, I would still be blind;
Wandering this land of woe.
And by the grace of God, the answer I did find:
One day with Him I'll go.

I walked along the precipice of hell,
Worried that my secrets someone might tell.
Realizing God already knows them all,
I reached to take His hand and He saved me from the fall.

Thus by the grace of God, I sing this song:
My soul to Him belongs.
